Although he has lost his job, Michel lives happily with Marie-Claire. They’ve been in love for 30 years, are fulfilled as parents and grand-parents, have close friends and are proud of their trade union and political battles. This happiness is shattered along with their French window when two young armed and masked men hit them, tie them up, pull off their wedding rings and make off with their credit cards. The film was selected at Cannes 2011, Un Certain Regard. “In my eyes, one of the most serious issues in today’s society is there is no longer any class consciousness. In the sense that you can no longer even say ‘working class’; this is why I speak about ‘poor people’. Yet, the actual awareness of being “poor people,” doesn’t exist. There aren’t two types of populations, one being a native, employed, unionized home owner... and the other being an unemployed immigrant, delinquent, from inner cities or poor suburbs. Politics and cinema can work to unmask this intellectual deception – and my mind will never be changed on this question: therein lies the essential.” (Robert Guédiguian)

ROBERT GUÉDIGUIAN (1953, Marseille), director, screenwriter and producer of Armenian origin, Guédiguian studied sociology in Paris, to then move back to his native city, which is present in many of his works, where he wrote, produced and directed his films.  Together with other producers he founded Agat Films.  In 1980 he made his debut with DERNIER ÉTÉ (LAST SUMMER, 1980), followed three years later by ROUGE MIDI (RED MIDDAY). The films MARIUS AND JEANNETTE (1995), LA VILLE EST TRANQUILLE (1999) and A L'ATTAQUE! (2001) confirmed his commitment.
