synopsis Marina is going through a deep marital and professional crisis. Ever more distant from her husband, the tenacity with which she tackles her job as social worker (child psychologist for children with difficult family situations) comes up against indifference and widespread violence. One day Marina is attacked and raped on the street. When she finds the people responsible for this crime, the various segments of her life start to redefine themselves. “I was amazed at the story’s authenticity. I involved several non-actors. I chose to use two cameras that always worked simultaneously from different spots. I challenged the DOP and the cameraman not use lights at all – only natural lighting. I challenged Olga not to use any make up on the set.” (Angelina Nikonova)
Twighlight Portrait is a feature i.n digital cameras. Like the one which has an apparently purely secondary role in this story, like the two which were on set, filming a feature which Angelina Nikonova took on as a triple challenge, as a somersault. Natural lights, no makeup for the main actress and co-producer – Olga Dilhovichnaya, excellent –, a narrative structure which pummels every moralism and even certain unwritten rules. A family and a job can still crush you into solitude, a rape can force you to shatter the superstructures of your life. It is a work which will shake you and make you angry, in which every aesthetic choice is an ethical one. And vice-versa. (Boris Sollazzo).
