synopsis Claire, a young magistrate at the law court in Lyon, meets Stéphane, an experienced, disillusioned magistrate whom she involves in her fight against over-indebtedness. Something happens between them: a fusion of revolt and emotions, and above all the urgent need to live it all to the full. «It’s a story about the many faces of love. Despite the lack of ambiguity in the relationship as experienced by the characters, this is instead found in the eyes of others... as probably in the eyes of the spectator, who will live their encounter through the prism of their own experience and doubts». (Philippe Lioret)
Philippe Lioret does not manage to separate himself from reality or from Vincent Lindon. Or from sport, for two films now. In every film the French film-maker gives us our injustice, our daily pain, and if in WELCOME the great transalpine actor was a swimming coach, here he is a magistrate who trains a rugby team. Between the physical effort and the repressed and slightly depressed sentimental yearning, there is a collective tragedy – illegal immigration here, loan-sharks there – seen through individual dynamics. TOUTES NOS ENVIES is a love story based on Lioret’s usual unsaids: it is (only?) born in the eyes of “others”, on and in front of the screen, it tells of the noble and imperfect complicity which establishes itself in those who dare to do the right thing. (Boris Sollazzo).
