Walter Stokman
(1966) studied film at the Art Academy of Breda in the Netherlands and since 1993 has made a number of documentaries. His rose to the international stage in 2003 with Ash Worldwide Suicide, which won Best Documentary at the Brooklyn International Film Festival and the Dutch Golden Calf. The subsequent Based on a True Story (2005), about the real-life events that inspired Sidney Lumet’s film Dog Day Afternoon, received the Grand Jury Award at the 2005 Seattle International Film Festival.
