VENICE DAYS YEAR 7

In the name of freedom
Independent, auteur and creative cinema has for seven years found a home in Venice and its flag at Venice Days, a free space promoted by the Italian filmmakers associations ANAC and 100 Autori. According to General Delegate Giorgio Gosetti: the world’s oldest festival features the prominent surprises of tomorrow’s cinema. We are an autonomous section of the Venice Film Festival and can take top talent down the path to success.
Venice Days 2010 will take place at the 67. Mostra, from September 2-11. Deadline for submission is July 10th.
12 films in the official selection;
► daily special events;
► theme-based evenings at the Screen under the Stars;
► workshops and international panels;
► the feature-length films will be presented in the official Perla 2 theatre on the Lido;
► Venice Days films will compete for the Venice Film Festival’s parallel prizes. Debut films are eligible for the Lion of the Future;
► exclusive MEDIA Programme’s Label Europa Cinémas is given to an European film from our selection.

What’s new?
A Venice Days Award is coming soon – a special prize for creativity and talent that will be presented exclusively to one of the many international films selected in Venice Days.
Other new elements include a section dedicated to Italian and European documentaries; the daily Cinema conversations between filmmakers attending Venice; and a new look for the Filmmakers Villa, the informal place for lively discussions and day and night fun that truly offers an alternative way of being center stage at the festival.

Beyond Venice
Venice Days is no longer merely a sidebar at the Venice Film Festival, but a quality brand that distinguish our films to first-rate screens and events in Rome, Milan and other Italian cities. We also promote the unique project 100+1: One hundred films and one country, Italy, headed by critic Fabio Ferzetti and dedicated to keeping alive the great memory of Italian film history; we support throughout the year initiatives by Italian and European filmmakers’ associations.
Venice Days are produced by the Associazione Giornate degli Autori, and are promoted by ANAC and 100 Autori. Roberto Barzanti is president, Giorgio Gosetti is General Delegate.

The sign of success
Giorgio Gosetti says: “Thanks to the work of a great team, and to the confidence of famous Maestros such as Claude Miller and Goran Paskaljevic, independent cinema regains its voice at Venice Days. The movies we love conquer audiences and move emotions, as confirmed by the international success of films like Cell 211 and Videocracy and the awards won throughout the world, including three Lions of the Future at Venice in the past editions.
We are confident that 2010 will mark yet another qualitative leap forward”.
