"INCENDIES" BURNS A PATH FROM VENICE TO THE OSCARS®
25/01/2011
The verdict is in and it’s a good one: Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies has just been chosen among the final nominees for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar®, the winner of which will be presented at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles in February.
The life of this passionate family story that takes a new and dramatic look at the Middle East, both yesterday and today, began in Venice Days last September. Since then, under a flood of awards, rave reviews and international sales, Incendies seems to have no intention of slowing down its wonderful journey. A few days ago, Lucky Red, which bought Italian rights immediately after the film’s world premiere at Venice, released Incendies in Italian theatres to unanimous critical and public acclaim.
The Oscar race is a tough one among highly talented competitors, but just being nominated is already a wonderful result for Denis Villeneuve and Canadian cinema. Venice Days congratulates him and his fellow filmmakers, in the name of the Italian distributor as well, for the courage and humanity of the story that the film so masterfully depicts.
Although this news comes as no surprise to us, we at Venice Days are very moved and thrilled and wish to warmly thank Denis Villeneuve, producers Luc Déry and Kim McCraw, seller Charlotte Mickie, distributor Isabelle Dubar and everyone who trusted us and let us have the honour of hosting the world premiere of this moving and clever masterpiece, which deserves the countless awards and success it has ammassed thus far.
