THE ART OF LILIANA CAVANI AT VENICE DAYS
11/08/2010
September 7 marks the world premiere of Peter Marcias’ Liliana Cavani, una donna nel cinema in the Venice Days sidebar at the Venice Film Festival. The film will screen in the outdoor cinema of the Filmmakers Villa.
This tribute to the great director Liliana Cavani – produced by the L’Alambicco Cultural Association in collaboration with the Cultural Councils of Sardinia and the Town and Province of Cagliari – covers her career, from the early years at RAI television, to her monumental film and more recent television drama. The film is narrated by actor Omero Antonutti and the scored by Romeo Scaccia.
Before the screening there will be a brief concert by the Scuola Civica di Musica of the Town of Cagliari (presided over by Maurizio Porcelli) with guitarist Luigi Puddu. Besides Cavani, the film’s creators and founders Alessandro Macis and Patrizia Masala will also be present, along with actor Omero Antonutti and the director, Peter Marcias.
Liliana Cavani is but one of the many contemporary masters at Venice Days this year, alongside Bertrand Blier (The Clink of Ice), Marion Hänsel (Noir Ocean), Danis Tanovic (Cirkus Columbia) and Jafar Panahi (The Accordion); and Italy’s Antonio Capuano (L’Amore Buio), Pappi Corsicato (Capo Dio Monte) and Daniele Segre (Lisetta Carmi. Un’anima In Cammino). As well as celebrated actors such as Jean Dujardin, Miki Manojlovic, Micheline Presle, Maria de Medeiros and Santiago Cabrera, and artists such as Luigi Ontani and photographer Lisetta Carmi.
Says Venice Days Delegate General Giorgio Gosetti: “A year ago Liliana Cavani spoke to us from the screen in Valerio Jalongo’s beautiful documentary Di me cosa ne sai. We are obviously pleased that today she is at the heart of a portrait by a passionate young filmmaker who recalls those values of our cinema that Italian culture could use to restore its former prominence.”
