At its seventh edition, Venice Days is a program that discovers and internationally promotes new auteurs, filmmakers of indisputable talent, directors of grand personalities who skillfully capture the attention of audiences and critics worldwide.
Proof of this is the success that our film premieres garner at other festivals in Europe and beyond. To name just some of the titles of the last edition:
Barking Water (USA) by Sterlin Harjo – Special Jury Prize at Amiens and the Rellumes Prize at Gijòn.
Cell 211 (Spain) by Daniel Monzón – selected by over 10 prestigious international festivals, including Toronto, Hong Kong and Istanbul; winner of eight Goya Awards, including Best Director and Best Actor.
Desert Flower (Germany/Austria) by Sherry Horman – Audience Award at San Sebastian, in competition at numerous other festivals.
France (Argentina) by Adrián Caetano – Special Jury Award at the Huelva Latin American Film Festival.
Gordos (Spain) by Daniel Sánchez-Arévalo – Bronze Horse at Stockholm and the Jury Prize at the Monte Carlo Comedy Film Festival; nominated for seven Goyas and won Best Supporting Actor.
Harragas (Morocco) by Merzak Allouache – absolutely dominated the 2009 Dubai International Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury and FIPRESCI prizes and the Human Rights Film Network Award.
Honeymoons (Serbia/Albania) by Goran Paskaljevic – selected in festivals worldwide (including Toronto, Pusan, Rotterdam, Hong Kong and Istanbul) and winner of the Audience Award at Thessaloniki.
La Horde (France) by debut filmmakers Yannick Dahan and Arnaud Bordas – International Film Fantasy Award at Fantasporto.
Silent Voice (France) by another young debut director, Léa Fehner – Lumière Prix for Best Debut Actres (Pauline Etienne), Michel-d'Ornano Award at the Deauville American Film Festival and a César nomination for Best Debut Film and Best Debut Actress.
