synopsis Umay, a young German woman of 25, leaves Istanbul and her oppressive marriage to return to her native Berlin, convinced of finding a peaceful environment in which to raise her son. But her unexpected arrival sets off a series of conflicts in her family.
“We live in a multicultural society, which can no longer simply promote consensus but must find new ways to get around increasing divergence. That will only happen with ongoing dialogue and allowing ourselves to be being guided by our similarities rather than by our differences.” (Feo Aladag)
Besides training as an actress, Feo Aladag (Vienna, 1972) studied communications and psychology in Vienna and London. A journalist, she has written screenplays for television films and attended post-graduate seminars in directing at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin (DFFB). She and Züli Aladag founded Independent Artists Filmproduktion in 2004. |
