VENICE DAYS - DAY BY DAY
25/08/2004
Eleven films, a special event, four tributes and special programs including a sequence of Vittorio Gassmann’s last film, and a series of meetings to discuss present day European and Italian cinema and its challenges. This is the program of the first edition of Venice Days, an event promoted by ANAC and the authors of API in agreement with the Biennale which will open on Thursday, 2nd September at the Venice Film Festival.
The first day will be packed full of events. At 11.15 in the Sala Perla, the lost film by the prodigal son of French cinema will be shown. Morasseix is the first film by Damien Odoul, the flag bearer of “naughty”, anti-conformist cinema which, despite the irony of the light comedy, is sure to arouse controversy and shock. Following this “special event”, at 2.30 PM in the Sala Grande, Venice Days will officially open with a tribute to the “mattatore” of Italian cinema showing the first and only images of Caro Vittorio, Gassmann’s last film directed by Marco Risi. Diletta D’Andrea, president of the Vittorio Gassmann Foundation, will be present. The comedy Confituur will follow; a fierce parody of old age by the Belgian director Lieven Debrauwer, already renowned for Pauline et Paulette. Finally, in the Sala Volpi at 6.30 pm, there will be a tribute to Nico d’Alessandria, one of the most restless talents of Italian cinema, with the showing of his debut feature film L’imperatore di Roma.
The PalaGalileo will house Venice Days from Friday, 3rd September showing films daily at 11.00 in the presence of the directors who will meet with the public and the press at the end of the presentation. Each film will be shown again to the public the following day at 1.00 pm at the PalaTim and to accredited professionals (priority given to press and industry) at 4.00 pm at the Cinema Astra.
On Saturday, 4th September two films will be shown at the PalaGalileo at 11.00 and 1.15 pm. On Friday, 10th September there will be a special programme in the Sala Volpi with the showing of In Kurdistan è difficile presented by “Un ponte per” association. On Saturday, 11th September at 7.30 pm the closing ceremony will celebrate music and documentary. The Ethnological Institute of Sardinia will present Passaggi di tempo by Gianfranco Cabiddu with music by Paolo Fresu and the band “Sonos e memoria”.
Every day at 3.30 pm the authors of Italian cinema will welcome the directors of Venice Days, the public and the press at the Authors' Villa (close to the Excelsior Hotel) for meetings to discuss subjects regarding cinema and the industry.
