"The Venice Film Festival has changed a great deal since I came here for the first time in 1997. It has grown in grandeur and become even more international as it attracts more and more important stars. As it has grown, it has become more simiilar to the Cannes Film Festival and now represents one of the few occasions for film makers to meet, compare their work and present their films to the public.
For this reason, I think that Venice Days is a magnificent section which brings the Festival within reach of those who are truly passionate about cinema.
In addition I am very pleased that Ciorgio Gosetti is in charge of the initiative. He has followed my career since I made my first film and when he chose Dead Man's Shoes for the first edition of this new section I was truly honoured.
I sincerely hope that Venice Days will grow in importance over the next few years and that it will continue to represent a much needed opportunity for the discovery of smaller independent cinema."
