#1 - OPENING
03/09/2004
Mario Monicelli "baptised" the first edition of Venice Days during the opening ceremony in Sala Grande. Presidents of Venice Days, Roberto Barzanti, and of Biennale, Davide Croff, officially opened the Giornate.
First films screened were Caro Vittorio by Marco Risi (Tribute to Vittorio Gassmann) and Sweet Jam by Lieven Debrauwer. The warm, 15 minutes long applause that welcomed the belgian feature justifies the strong interest of international buyers for Confituur.
During the ceremony, the representatives of Anac and the authors of Api, Francesco Maselli and Emidio Greco, made a declaration - read by actress Michela Cescon - about the state of crisis of Italian filmmakers and film industry, due to recent restrictions in public fundings (downloadable below, only in italian).
