For her work, Pandimiglio has in recent years received over 50 awards, including two special mentions at the Nastri d’Argento. In 2009 she co-directed with César Meneghetti, with whom she has made numerous documentaries, the feature film L’incontro.

Ten years ago I made my first project on children in prison who have committed no crimes, after reading an article on Teresa, a 17-month-old girl living in the maximum-security section of Rebibbia with her mother, who was convicted of drug trafficking. The piece was accompanied by photos. I was struck by one image in particular: of a little girl walking down the hallway of a jail, imitating the typical “path” of the prisoners. She was learning her first words: “food” instead of “pap,” and “cell”, “visit”, “air”, “officer, open up!” Since then I never gave up on the idea of trying to visually represent a small glimpse of a huge injustice that is so complex to break down and perhaps even to recount.
