2009/2010 SEASON: VENICE DAYS FILMS IN CINEMAS
12/09/2009
We are pleased to announce that two Venice Days films, both documentaries, have been out in Italian theatres since September 4: Stefano Consiglio’s film on gay couples, L’AMORE E BASTA (Lucky Red), and VIDEOCRACY (Fandango), a micro-history of Italian television by Italian-Swedish director Erik Gandini, which took fourth place at the box office in its first week on release.
On September 18, Valerio Jalongo’s DI ME COSA NE SAI (Cinecittà Luce), a highly topical documentary on the state of domestic cinema, will open a preview event held for the association of arthouse cinemas.
Other Venice Days titles that picked up Italian distributors on the Lido and will be released at a later date are: LA HORDE (Fandango), the horror film by debut directors Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher that already has a cult following; Sherry Hormann’s DESERT FLOWER, which sales agent The Match Factory has sold to numerous territories; and the top-selling film of Venice Days 2009, Daniel Monzón’s CELDA 211, picked up for Italy by Bolero from international seller Films Distribution.
Films expected to be signed for Italy at the market of the Toronto Film Festival, which opened last Thursday, include Daniel Sánchez-Arévalo’s GORDOS, Goran Paskaljevic’s HONEYMOONS and, naturally, the “winner” of Venice Days 2009 (of the Label Europa Cinemas award), Alex van Warmerdam’s THE LAST DAYS OF EMMA BLANK (sold by Fortissimo Films).
