CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION DAY
12/09/2009
Yesterday, September 11, the announced meeting took place at the Filmmakers Villa in honor of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation, in whose program Venice Days is official participating.
Venice Days President Roberto Barzanti and Delegate General Giorgio Gosetti have illustrated the goals of the EU initiative and the activities comprised under the umbrella program. Thus, yesterday another encounter dedicated to the same goals also took place, and in uniting the two initiatives by a common spirit, Venice Days brought together their filmmakers for a statement of intent that defends freedom of expression for all artists and supports the free circulation of languages, rendered even more possible by the new technologies being developed today.
The statement reads: “In a world marked increasing cultural globalization, and the rediscovery of individual expressive roots, it is fundamental that artists renounce their role of avant-garde intellectuals in defense of a common language of creativity that knows no flags or boundaries. The commitment of the European Union in favor of creativity and the dialogue between artistic forms provides inalienable support for those who believe that art can become a meeting point and form of dialogue between diverse experiences, stories often marked by dramatic misunderstandings, countries that are working to open their borders rather than shut themselves off in antiquated prejudices.”
Venice Days is also committed to supporting future projects and initiatives that concretely show the infinite potential that artists offer today through technological innovations. So that creativity is not imprisoned by boundaries and ephemeral patterns of genres and forms, but is allowed to enter a new period of freedom and vitality by mixing languages; bringing cinema closer to the figurative and performing arts; and pushing the dialogue between literature, poetry and the audiovisual image to a new frontier.
