Giorgio Garini
Giorgio Garini (Milan, 1961) worked as assistant director to Silvio Soldini on films such as Paesaggio con figure, Giulia in Ottobre, The Peaceful Air of the West, A Soul Split in Two and The Acrobat, all produced by Monogatari, the production company he founded with Soldini. At the same time he also worked as documentary filmmaker, making short ethnographic reportages on Southeast Asia, including Nayak, in competition at Bellaria in 1987; Sud Est, second prizewinner at the 1988 Turin Film Festival; and Nusa Indah, Jury Prize winner at the Garda Film Festival in 1991. He went on to make documentaries of a broader social and not just anthropological range.
