THE NAME OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE JURY OF THE PRIZE "LUIGI DE LAURENTIIS" FOR BEST DEBUT HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED
31/05/2007
The Venice Biennal announced the name of the President of the Best cinematographic debut Award "Luigi De Laurentis"of the 64th Mostra Internazionale D'Arte Cinematografica organised by the Venice Biennial, chaired by Davide Croff and directed for the fourth year by Marco Muller.
It is that of Bill Mechanic, one of the most relevant men of the Hollywood industry in the last fifty-five years, who, after serving Walt Disney Studios and Fox Filmed Entertainment as vice-president and president of different sectors, started a new activity as independent producer, with his own production company, Pandemonium Films. Pandemonium has produced The New World by Terrence Malick in 2005, and Dark Water, first english-spoken movie directed by the Brazilian Walter Salles.
The jury will be probably composed of five members, who will have to grant the “Leone del Futuro”, the 100.000 euros given by Filmauro, and the 20.000 meters of film offered by Kodak to the best first work, among the feature films presented in the different sections of the festival.
The Luigi De Laurentiis Award has been assigned for the last two years to debut movies selected by Venice Days: 13-Tzàmeti by Gela Babluani, in 2005, and Khadak by Peter Brosens and Jessica Woodworth, in 2006.
