Vincenzo Marra

L’udienza č aperta is the result of my need to see with my own eyes the reality of Italian justice. For too many years so much has been said on the topic without it being truly known, so, moved by curiosity I wet to the criminal court of my city, Naples. In order to achieve this I decided to follow the people who live there and physically carry out justice. The president of a court, his assisting judge and the most famous criminal lawyer of Naples. All working on the same trial, a homicide case, committed on behalf of one of the many camorra clans of the area. They, my protagonists, have been willing to put themselves at stake, allowing me to enter the heart of their professional life, without fear of showing themselves. Using the same method of my Estranei alla massa, I was able to win their distrust and make a movie which is truly without “barriers”, and as I usually do, I tried not to give judgments, limiting myself to observation.

Vincenzo Marra was born in Naples in 1972. In particular he has taken interest in the case against the individuals responsible for the Italian desaparecidos in Argentina. He has alsocommitted to issue of Northern Ireland. In 1998 he directed and produced the short movie Una rosa prego. Three years later he made his debut with his first feature film, Tornando a casa, which received the best film award at the Settimana della Critica in Venice. In 2002 he directed and produced the documentary Estranei alla massa selected for the Torino and the Locarno film festivals. In 2004 Vento di Terra won the prize FIPRESCI in Venice; the same movie won the prize for outstanding movie of the year at the Critic's Week in Cannes.
