THE FRIENDSHIP WITH THE DIRECTORS' FORTNIGHT RECONFIRMED IN CANNES
13/06/2006
During a dinner organised by the Venice Days at the Hilton Hotel in Cannes last May 25th, the General Delegate of the Venice Days, Fabio Ferzetti , and the General Delegate of the Directors' Fortnight Olivier Père renewed their commitment in finding new collaboration means between the two independent events of Venice and Cannes.
The evening on the terrace of the Hilton Hotel allowed the meeting between the organizers of the two sections, authors and young actors of the French and Italian industries. According to the organisers, both events are an excellent tool to promote good quality cinema.
As known, when the Directors' Fortnight started in Cannes, French authors wanted to create a space that would be independent from the main Festival.
The support of this independent space by the SFR (Société des Réalisateurs Français) over the years turned it into one of the important meeting place of the best international quality cinema, as it has also been proved by the films selected this year: it's not a coincidence that the Camera d'Or for 2006 (of which jury was presided by the Dardenne brothers) has been attributed to a film of the Fortnight, the Romanian A fost sau n-a fost .
The same idea was pursued at the Berlin Festival, with the creation of the Internationales Forum des Jungen Films. In that case also, throughout the years, this parallel event grew together with the main Festival, without losing its independent recognisable characteristic.
Nowadays, an ideal partnership, confirmed by a close artistic collaboration, links the Venice Days with the Quinzaine and the Forum, thanks to the selectors' involvement that tends to strengthen the common spirit that animates the events and the common commitment in the research of talents and innovative solutions for arthouse cinema.
