synopsis A judge of the court of appeal, an assisting judge and an eminent Neapolitan criminal lawyer: these are not the characters of the usual legal thriller but of Vincenzo Marra’s new documentary. The case that brings the three together is a trial where the fate of the defendant, accused of murder for the “Camorra”, must be decided and particularly the admissibility of evidence obtained by telephone tapping. The camera however doesn’t focus on the trial but directs its attention on the lives of the two judges and the lawyer. A film that looks behind the scenes, in a kind of backstage of the trial to try to understand what Italian justice really is, beyond the outcries of newspaper articles and of political disputes. Away from their institutional and public roles, the three protagonists reason and discuss, expressing opinions that may or may not be agreeable, on important subjects like Islamic culture, the role of women in work places and many more. Then the trial begins ad personal opinions are put aside, or aren't they? |
