FROM VENICE TO SUNDANCE... AND OSCARS

13 - (Tzameti), the debut film by Gela Babluani, a genuine revelation at the last edition of VENICE DAYS held during the 2005 Venice Film Festival, has won the World Cinema Jury Prize in the Dramatic section at the Sundance Film Festival, just ended in Park City, Utah, USA. The announcement was made by the jury’s spokesperson, Thomas Vinterberg, who said the film “expertly combines story, style and suspense”.
Babluani is originally from Georgia but now active in France, where he found the capital for his first feature film, just released in French cinemas. The new award is important international confirmation following his triumph at Venice, where he won the Netpac prize as well as the Luigi De Laurentiis Future Lion for a First Work.
Last but not least, the "winner" of first edition of Venice Days, Hubert Sauper's Darwin's Nightmare, has been nominated to 2006 Academy Awards in the Best Documentary Feature category. The film won at Venice Days 2004 the Label Europa Cinemas prize and, afterwards, the European Film Academy award for Best Documentary.
