NEW DIRECTOR FOR VENICE DAYS
30/01/2006
The film critic from the “Messaggero” daily newspaper, Fabio Ferzetti, is the new Director of Giornate degli Autori- Venice Days. The event will be back for the third consecutive year during the next Venice Film Festival, promoted by ANAC (the National Association of Cinematographic Authors) and the authors from API, in agreement with the Venice Biennale.
The nomination was agreed by the Executive Committee of the Giornate degli Autori-Venice Days Association, presided by Roberto Barzanti and vice-presidents Francesco Maselli (for ANAC) and Emidio Greco (for the API authors). The committee took the opportunity to thank Giorgio Gosetti for his work leading the first two editions of the showcase and the results obtained. Gosetti left his appointment at Venice Days because of his new professional position.
“Fabio Ferzetti has already worked at the Venice Festival in the past, collaborating with Gillo Pontecorvo and as a member of the Critics’ Week selection committee”, said Barzanti today, “His new position meets the criteria of authoritativeness, independence and the loyal relationship with the Venice Biennale, hallmarks of Venice Days since it started, decided together with the Festival director Marco Müller three years ago”.
“We are convinced”, added Greco and Maselli “that Fabio Ferzetti and the Venice Days staff - all been confirmed in position - know how to bring cultural-political continuity, strengthening the spirit of research, which has brought something new to the oldest film festival in the world”. Fabio Ferzetti from Rome (48), is a journalist, essayist and cultural organiser and has been a critic at “Messaggero” since 1984. He is certain “this year more than ever before, the Venice Festival will know how to maintain its inbred authority, originality and coherence, also thanks to the well-established fusion in Official Selection, Critics’ Week and Venice Days programmes”.
