Label Europa Cinemas - Venice Days 2005
Xavier Beauvois’ LE PETIT LIEUTENANT was awarded the Europa Cinemas Label by a jury of four Europa Cinemas exhibitors at the second Giornate degli Autori-Venice Days section at the Venice Film Festival. This marks the second year that the Europa Cinemas Label has been awarded to the Best European film in the Giornate degli Autori-Venice Days at Venice, and complements the Labels awarded at the Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes and the Panorama section of the Berlin Film Festival.
LE PETIT LIEUTENANT will receive the strong support of extended theatrical exposure and additional promotion from the Europa Cinemas network - 1.420 screens in 600 cinemas in 322 cities across 51 countries.
The Venice Days’ jury consisted of Henk Camping (Exhibitor, Filmtheatre’t Hoogt, Utrecht, Netherlands); Matthias Brunner (Exhibitor, Arthouse Commercio Movie AG, Zurich, Switzerland); Salvatore Cordaro (Exhibitor, Aurora and Igiea Cinemas, Palermo, Italy) and Mattias Nohrborg, Distributor and Exhibitor (Triangelfilm, Malmo, Sweden).
The jury issued the following statement about the winning film: “This is a powerful, unpretentious drama which gives a perspective not seen before of everyday life in a police station. The ensemble cast of actors is remarkable, and Xavier Beauvois is clearly one of the most talented French directors around.”
2004 winner of the Europa Cinemas Label - Venice Days is: Darwin’s Nightmare (Hubert Sauper, Austria/France/Belgium).

Netpac Award - Venice 2005
The NETPAC (Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema) Jury, present at Venice as part of the Giornate degli Autori - Venice Days (the independent section promoted by A.n.a.c. and the authors of the A.p.i., in collaboration with the Biennale), would gladly like to draw attention to the excellent visibility of Asian cinema, offered by the director of the 62nd Mostra Internazionale di Arte Cinematografica, Marco Müller, with high-quality works, significant discoveries, important masters and a noteworthy programme of retrospectives.
Regarding the Venice Days selection, with respect to the tradition of the prize, the Jury, presided by Anne De Gasperi (Le Figaro, France) and composed by Aruna Vasudev (Cinemaya, India - President of Netpac), Hulya Uçansu (Istanbul Foundation for Culture and Arts, Turchia), has awarded the Netpac Venice 2005 prize to:
